ABO Grouping

- Blood Types:
- Type A: Has A antigens on the red cells and anti-B antibodies in the plasma.

- Purpose: Has B antigens on the red cells and anti-A antibodies in the plasma.
- Type AB: Has both A and B antigens on the red cells and no anti-A or anti-B antibodies in the plasma; known as the universal recipient.

- Procedure:
- Blood Sample: A blood sample is taken and mixed with anti-A and anti-B antibodies.
- Observation: The sample is observed for agglutination (clumping). The presence or absence of agglutination determines the blood type.
- Agglutination with anti-A antibodies indicates type A blood.
- Agglutination with anti-B antibodies indicates type B blood.
- Agglutination with both indicates type AB blood.
- No agglutination indicates type O blood.
- Rh Factor:
- Purpose: Determines the presence (+) or absence (-) of the Rh antigen (D antigen) on the red blood cells.
